CMAT is an online computer based test conducted by the All India council of Technical Education (AICTE). CMAT is a national level test for all institutes, excluding Indian Institute of Management. Indian Institute of Management conducts Common admission Test (CAT) every year for admission to their MBA Programs. AICTE is planning to test the emotional quotient of the aspiring management graduates in the CMAT.
The Emotional Quotient (EQ) section is likely to be introduced in October 2013 CMAT. The new section will have a weightage of about 25 marks out of total 400. The questions will judge the EQ of a candidate as to how suitable he or she is for the course. Emotional Intelligence of the student will be evaluated along with skills like quantitative technique, logical reasoning, language comprehension and general awareness which are the other sections in CMAT examination. The idea behind addition of this section is that emotional intelligence is equally important in the competitive corporate world as are the other mathematical, numerical, verbal and logical skills.
AICTE started CMAT in February 2012 with the aim of providing a single MBA Entrance exam to the aspirants. The AICTE plans to conduct CMAT twice a year- in February and October. After CAT and MAT this is third national level MBA Entrance exam whose scores are being accepted nearly by all the Institutes aprt from the ones which have their own entrance tests like Xavier Institute of Management, Symbiosis University, IIFT etc. Online registration of CMAT 2013-14 started on 01 November 2012 and will be till 02 January 2013.The test will be conducted between 21-25 February 2013.
