India’s first medical college established by Employees State Insurance Corporation declared open in the city of Bangalore on 8 September 2012. This event marked the organization’s foray into the education sector.
ESIC or Employees State Insurance Corporation plans further to set up all eight medical colleges across the country .
Minister for Labour and Emloyment M Mallikarjun Kharge urged all state governments to ensure establishment of a "single window agency" to grant all approvals such as fire force clearance, electricity board approval and others under one-roof to projects which are of national importance and for people welfare.
Apparently, the labour ministry has spent Rs 3,000 crore on various projects being implemented by the ESIC.
Also, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has promised to render all support to the ESIC projects and said his government has earmarked Rs 554 crore in its budget for workers' welfare.
