Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct a Combined Recruitment examination, on behalf of Food Corporation of India (FCI) under special dispensation given by the Government for Category III (Assistant Grade III) posts in General, Depot, Technical and Account Cadres with the FCI, on 11 November 2012.

A graduate in any discipline from a recognized University can appear for Assistant Grade III (General) examination -- Post Code A and for Assistant Grade III (Depot) examination -- Post Code D. For Assistant Grade III (Account) -- Post Code B, the candidate should be a commerce graduate from a recognized University.

Any individual who holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture / Botany / Zoology / Microbiology / Bio- Technology / Bio-Chemistry / Food Science from a recognized University or B.Tech / BE in Food Science / Food Science & Technology / Agricultural Engineering / Bio-Technology from a recognized University / an institution approved by AICTE can appear for Assistant Grade III (Tech) exam -- Post Code C.

The selection process to all the posts comprises of a written exam -- Objective Type Multiple Choice questions, followed by a Computer Proficiency Test (CPT). The CPT, with components of Word Processing and Excel, will be of qualifying nature. Proficiency in Computers is a must for all the posts

The written exam for Post Codes A, B and D will consist of two papers -- Paper-I and Paper-II (200 marks each). Both the papers will be of Higher Secondary or 10th level. Candidates applying for Post Code C will have to appear in Paper-I and Paper-III (also of 200 marks). Paper III will, however, be of degree or graduation level.

Candidates shortlisted on the basis of their performance in Paper-I and Paper-II/ Paper-III will appear for the CPT.

 Paper I will have questions based on:

  • General Intelligence, 
  • General Awareness,
  • Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill)
  • English Language (Basic Knowledge).

Paper II will have questions based on:

  • Quantitative Methods
  • English Language and Comprehension.

Paper III will consist of questions in Botany, Zoology, Bio-technology, Bio-chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science and Technology, Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering.

 Detailed Syllabus for various subjects of the written examination is as follows:

 For Paper I:

General Intelligence:  This component will include questions on analogies, similarities and differences, space visualization, spatial orientation, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning and figural classification, arithmetic number series, non-verbal series, coding and decoding, statement conclusion, syllogistic reasoning etc. The questions will be of both verbal type and non-verbal type. The topics covered will be Semantic Analogy, Symbolic / Number Analogy, Figural Analogy, Semantic Classification, Symbolic / Number Classification, Figural Classification, Semantic Series, Number Series,  Figural Series, Problem Solving, Word Building, Coding & de-coding, Numerical Operations, symbolic Operations, Trends, Space Orientation, Space Visualization, Venn Diagrams, Drawing inferences, Punched hole / pattern – folding & un-folding, Figural Pattern – folding and completion, Indexing, Address matching, Date & city matching, Classification of centre codes / roll numbers, Small & Capital letters / numbers coding, decoding and classification, Embedded Figures, Critical thinking, Emotional Intelligence, Social Intelligence, Other subtopics, if any.

General Awareness: Questions in this component will be aimed at testing the candidates’ General Awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test the candidates’ knowledge of current events and of such matters of every day observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity & Scientific Research.

Quantitative Aptitude: The questions will be designed to test the candidates’ ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The scope of the test will be computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions & relationships between numbers, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest, Profit & Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture & Alligation, Time & Distance, Time & Work, Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra & Elementary surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, Triangle & its various kinds of centres, Congruence & similarity of triangles, Circle & its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles, Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons, Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base, Trigonometric ratio, Degree & Radian Measures, Standard Identities, Complementary angles, Heights and Distances, Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar diagram & Pie chart.

English Language: The questions will be designed to test the candidate‘s ability to understand correct English, his basic comprehension and writing ability, etc.                       

 

For Paper II:

Quantitative Methods: The questions will be designed to test the candidates’ ability of appropriate use of numbers and number sense of the candidate. The scope of the test will be computation of whole numbers, decimals, fractions & relationships between numbers, Percentage, Ratio & Proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest, Profit & Loss, Discount, Partnership Business, Mixture & Alligation, Time & distance, Time & Work, Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra & Elementary surds, Graphs of Linear Equations, Triangle & its various kinds of centres, Congruence & similarity of triangles, Circle & its chords, tangents, angles subtended by chords of a circle, common tangents to two or more circles, Triangle, Quadrilaterals, Regular Polygons , Circle, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Sphere, Hemispheres, Rectangular Parallelepiped, Regular Right Pyramid with triangular or square base, Trigonometric ratio, Degree & Radian Measures, Standard Identities, Complementary angles, Heights &  Distances, Histogram, Frequency polygon, Bar diagram & Pie chart.

English Language & Comprehension: Questions in this component will be designed to test the candidates’ understanding and knowledge of English Language and will be based on spot the errors, fill in the blanks, synonyms, antonyms, spelling / detecting mis-spelt words, idioms & phrases, one word substitution, improvement of sentences, active / passive voice of verbs, conversion into direct / indirect narration, shuffling of sentence parts, shuffling of sentences in a passage, close passage & comprehension passage. 

For Paper III:

The question paper will consist of questions in – Botany, Zoology, Bio-technology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Food Science and Technology, Agriculture and Agricultural Engineering of Graduation Level.
