The Union Service Public Commission (UPSC) Indian Administrative Services (IAS) conducts an exam every year, and it is taken over by more than 10 lakh candidates. Among the total UPSC IAS aspirants, less than 10 percent of candidates were selected for Group A and B services.
According to the recent statement in the Rajya Sabha session from the Minister of State for Personnel, Jitendra Singh, around 63.66% of the total candidates who cleared the UPSC are from engineering backgrounds. Along with this, the minister also said that around 75% of the aspirants are male. In addition, it is also highlighted that the top 3 optional subjects chosen by the candidates are Political Science and International Relations (PSIR), Geography, and Sociology.
Also, 76% of the aspirants who were selected in the UPSC IAS exam have a bachelor's degree. Moreover, the languages chosen by candidates to write their answers were Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, and Kannada, respectively. Check the detailed report below
Male and Female Candidates ratio in UPSC CSE Exam
In the previous 5 years (2017–21), approximately 75% of the candidates who appeared in the exam were males. In 2021, the number of male candidates recommended for final results was 547, whereas the number of recommended females was 201. Check the table below for year-wise recommended candidates.
