The Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) will return in the state from 2014, being as the common one entrance exam for admission to each professional degree courses under Medicine field (Dentistry, Pharmacy, Homeopathy, etc.) and Technical/Engineering studies.
GCET will commence on May 7 and May 8, 2014 as per the decision of Directorate of technical education (DTE). Due to entry of GCET again, the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET) will not hold anymore.
After the CBSE’s NEET was taken in 2013 for taking eligible student’s admission to medical colleges all across the nation, state Goa had come upon a decision to adhere to the central test admissions in engineering colleges as well, from 2014 onwards.
The state was planning the apt process to admissions in to homeopathy and pharmacy degree courses and was about to unlink with GCET. However, the plan failed after the rejection of NEET by Supreme Court, as the only and central exam for admission to every medical and dentistry courses spread nationwide.
The GCET returned to take admissions for medicines and dentistry too just like 2012. Roughly 3,500 students appeared in GCET pre-2013 exam to compete for admission in the 5 professional courses in the state. The pattern of GCET exam is objective multiple-choice type with each paper having 75 questions each of one mark. Also, no negative marking is there.
The syllabus of GCET is as per the Goa board of secondary and higher secondary education prescription and based on the same. The GCET syllabus covers Class XII syllabus of Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology, as well as Computer Science subject.
