Governors met to Discuss on How to Improve Quality of Higher Education

    In its first ever meeting, the governor's committee shared and discussed ideas on improving quality of higher education in India. The meeting was held in Mumbai on 23 October 2013.

    Set up by President Pranab Mukherjee, the committee has eight members with the Maharashtra governor K. Sankaranarayanan as the head of the committee.

    The other members of the committee are the governors of Bihar, Kerala, Goa, Haryana, Andaman-Nicobar and Puducherry; and the Lt-governor of Delhi.

    The major issues discussed in the meeting are the appointment of vice-chancellors, the unavailability of trained and experienced teachers, improving students’ grades, providing student loans and creating an environment for research.

    According to the concerned press release, the committee will submit its report to the President.
