IAS Interview: Importance of Dress

Q. I have cleared the IAS (Mains) written exam. Now I have to appear for the interview. What kind of dress should one wear for the occasion? Formal or Casual?

Answer: For the Civil Services interview, men are expected to appear in formal trousers along with full-sleeve shirts. The trouser should be dark-coloured while shirt should be light in colour. For women, sarees and salwar-kameez are appropriate. The candidates should feel comfortable in their clothing. It’s better to wear cloths which are washed well and ironed than new ones. Male candidates should have clean-shaved face and in case they want to have moustache, it should be nicely trimmed. Women candidates should not wear too much jewelry. One should not have coins in the pockets otherwise it will make odd sounds.
