    P K Sinha, Cabinet Secretary of Union Government, on March 8, 2018 launched 'I-Metros', an association of all Indian Metro Rail companies.

    The association was launched during the Conference on 'Indian Metros: Collaborating for Excellence'. The conference was attended by representatives of Metro systems from all over the world who are in Delhi to attend the management meeting of the Community of Metros (CoMET).

    About I - Metros

    Rajasthan Assembly on March 9, 2018 passed the Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill, 2018 awarding death penalty to convicts involved in the rape of girls below 12 years of age.

    The Bill was introduced by Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria and was passed in the House by a voice vote following a debate.

    Provisions of The Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Bill, 2018

    • The new amendment adds sections 376-AA and 376-DD to the Indian Penal Code, 1860.

    • The amendment says that a person who is convicted of raping or gang-raping a girl up to twelve years of age will be given a death sentence or rigorous imprisonment, which shall not be less than fourteen years.

    • It will award life sentence and life imprisonment to child rapists and will ensure that the convict does not get out of the jail even after completing 14 years of sentence.

    Indian architect Balkrishna Doshi was on March 7, 2018 awarded with 2018 Pritzker Prize for being able to interpret architecture and transform it into buildings that respect Eastern culture.

    Doshi was recognised for his exceptional work, his commitment and dedication to his country and its communities and for his influence as a professor.
    With this, Doshi became the first Indian to win the Pritzker Prize, the premier global award for architecture. Doshi is one of India's foremost living architects and urban planners. He is known for designing extensive low-cost housing projects and public institutions.

    The Pritzker Prize is regarded as equivalent to the Nobel Prize in the field of architecture. The award includes USD 100000 prize money and is sponsored by Hyatt Foundation. Previous winners include world-renowned architects like Zaha Hadid, Frank Gehry, IM Pei and Shigeru Ban.

    Explanation:

    Recently, Asiatic lion was in the news as their population rose to more than 600. Asiatic lion are cousins of the African lion. It is believed that both got separated 100000 years ago.
    Asiatic lions are slightly smaller and have a distinctive fold of skin along their bellies. Asiatic lion once inhabited complete southwest Asia, but, in the past few years, it got restricted to the 1400 square kilometre Gir Sanctuary in Gujarat state, leading to its listing as critically endangered in the year 2000.

    The species' population was under threat due to hunting and human encroachment. A recent survey revealed an increase in the number of Asiatic lions, Gir forest now inhabits more than 600 lions, up from 523 in a 2015 census.

    They are a major tourist attraction in Gujarat. Earlier, they were only regarded as the target of poachers. This increase in the number of lions is attributed to the wildlife conservation schemes, well-trained staff and vets as well as help from farmers.
