jagranjosh.com: Please tell us about your childhood, family background, schooling and higher education?
Rohit Shukla: I am a resident of Lucknow. I did my schooling from City Montessori School ( Lucknow). I did my BTECH from AKGEC Ghaziabad .My father is the Chief Medical Superintendent Of Govt Hospital(Unnao). My mother is a homemaker, my brother is a fashion designer and my sister did MBA .

Rohit Shukla: All credit goes to the Almighty and my mother for always supporting and guiding me through tough times.
jagranjosh.com: When did the idea of becoming a Civil Services Officer strick your mind?
Rohit Shukla: While working as a Software Engineer in Hyderabad I realised that in order to make my life more meaningful, get more job satisfaction and contribute to the society I should prepare for civil services.
jagranjosh.com: With ample of lucrative job opportunities are available today in the private sector, what kept you motivated towards the Civil Services in the course of rigorous preparation for the exam?
Rohit Shukla: Although one needs to be financially stable, the urge to work within the system and be a part of nation building always kept me motivated despite other job opportunities..
jagranjosh.com: Please tell about your icon, hobbies and interests?
Rohit Shukla: My mother is my idol. Outside family, I got inspired by Swami Vivekanand’s teachings. I like writing articles,meditating and watching cricket.
jagranjosh.com: How many attempts did it take for you to taste success?
Rohit Shukla: It took me 2 attempts to clear this exam.
jagranjosh.com: How much time did you take to prepare for the CSE?
Rohit Shukla: It took me around two years.
jagranjosh.com: How confident were you about succeeding in the CSE?
Rohit Shukla: Although it is a very unpredictable exam , still discipline and consistent hard work ensured I was confident most of the time.
jagranjosh.com: How helpful are coaching institutes?
Rohit Shukla: Coaching Institutes should be chosen very carefully but good ones can be quite useful in providing the right guidance.Ultimately , it is one’s own hard work that matters the most.
jagranjosh.com: Did you take the help of internet while preparing for the examination? How helpful did you find it? Did you use any current affairs website?
Rohit Shukla: Internet is indispensable these days for civil services preparation . Sites like Wikipedia are extremely helpful. Websites of newspapers like Dainik Jagran , The Hindu etc provide instant facts.

Rohit Shukla: The contents are relevant and up to date. But their can be more of analytical content considering increasing difficulty of competitive exams.
jagranjosh.com: Do you think the candidates appearing with English as the medium of their exam have an edge over the candidates with any other language?
Rohit Shukla: I do not think so. UPSC maintains a very balanced approach towards candidates of all languages.
