IIM Updates: IIM-A initiative to impart education to underprivileged kids

Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad has commenced its community outreach project ‘SMILE Centre’. Under this programme students and faculty members of the institute would impart education to children of underprivileged families.
SMILE stands for Student Mediated Initiative for Learning to Excel. IIM-A will run the center from an empty space under a flyover in front of the institute. Financial support for this initiative has been extended by Wagh Bakri group and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has given the permission for allotting the space for this good deed. The center would be open 24 hours for any student who wishes to use the resources at the center, and classes will be conducted for students belonging to standards 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th (Science, Arts, and Commerce).
Seven faculty members, three research associates in addition to thirty eight students of IIM-A will dedicate themselves for this project. Till now, 80 Students have come to SMILE Center which includes 13 girls. These students have been divided into different batches depending on their standards. Time slot of 7:30-9:00 AM is for those students who have failed in standard 10th, 3:30-5:30 PM is for regular 10th standard students, and 5:30-7:00 PM is for 9th, 11th, and 12th standard students. Not only this the SMILE team members will take tests on regular intervals for students to benchmark performance levels and later divide them into groups.
