With American universities dominating most of the list, Indian Institute of Science has bag a position among the top 500 global educational institutes. The list has been prepared by a Chinese organization where Indian Institute of Science is the only Indian institute among the top 500.
The prestigious university from Bangalore IISc, has been placed in the world rank category of 301-400 by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) as a research institute. IISc has been the top Indian university and has remained in the 151-200 rank category, in Natural Sciences and Mathematics. In Chemistry the academic ranking of the institute has remained in the category of 51-75, which is in tandem with the US-based John Hopkins University and Carnegie Mellon University. In the computer science department the rank has been in the 101-150 category, which is similar to that of King’s College, London.
Based on the ARWU rankings the Harvard University is placed as the number one university with Stanford and Massachusetts Institute of Technology following at the second and third places respectively. The rankings have been done based on quite a few indicators that consisted of academic and research performances. It also included alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals to tally the table. The other factors that played a part in preparing the list were, cited researchers, papers that got published in Nature and Science, per capita academic performance of an institution and many more.
