Eligibility for INMO –

Students who appeared and qualified for RMO are eligible to participate in INMO

  • Question Paper level – The question paper is same for all regions, therefore, the level of difficulty is exceptionally high
  • Selection Process - The top 30-35 performers in INMO receive a certificate of merit

Stage 4– International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp Students who qualify in INMO and awarded with INMO certificate are sent invitations for 30 days training camp as a junior batch in May-June every year. Moreover, the students from the previous year INMO who have satisfactorily participated in postal tuition throughout the year are invited again for the second round of training as a senior batch

Stage 5– International Mathematical Olympiad After the training camp, students are shortlisted and a team is formed of a "leader" and a "deputy leader who will represent India at the International Mathematics Olympiad.

Key features of IMO –

Exam Mode - IMO is a two-day event where the team from each country appear for two written tests. There is a gap of one day in each test.

Why are Olympiad Exams Important?

Syllabus for INMO:

The syllabus for Mathematics Olympiads (regional, national and international) is up to class 12th level only i.e. from class 9th to class 12th. However, the level of difficulty is higher and sophisticated as compared with school level. All the levels of Olympiad are mainly based on topics like number theory, geometry, algebra and combinatorics. However, the syllabus does not include calculus and statistics. The common topics for the Olympiads are –

  • Number Systems,
  • Arithmetic of Integers,
  • Geometry,
  • Quadratic Equations and Expressions,
  • Trigonometry,
  • Co-ordinate Geometry,
  • Systems of Linear Equations,
  • Permutations and Combinations,
  • Factorisation of Polynomials,
  • Inequalities,
  • Elementary Combinatorics,
  • Probability Theory,
  • Number Theory,
  • Infinite Series,
  • Complex Numbers and Elementary Graph Theory

What are advantages of HBCSE INMO?

  • Students are shortlisted to participate in International Mathematics Olympiad and their talent in Mathematics gets acknowledged
  • The top 30 students in merit from all over the country will be chosen as INMO awardees.
  • Besides INMO awardees, another 45 students who performed well in INMO and are studying in class11th and below (but could not qualify as INMO awardee) are presented with a certificate of merit. These students are eligible to appear in next year INMO directly and they do not need to appear for RMO 2018 again. However, they should not be studying in class 12th at the time of appearing in INMO.
  • Moreover, five girl students besides 30 INMO awardees will be selected and trained for the next European Girls Mathematics Olympiad (EGMO) based on their performance in INMO and these students need not be a part of INMO shortlisted students.
  • All the students who are awarded INMO merit including the girl student as mentioned above, as well as the senior batch students of IMO Training Camp, are eligible to appear for
  • All INMO awardees, the selected girl students as above and all the students designated as senior students of IMOTC 2018 will be eligible to write Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad.
