Indian Cricket squad is the 1st cricket team to thrive in the Cricket World Cup on domicile soil. The Cricket Team of India is administered by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). It is a affiliate of the ICC (International Cricket Council) with Test match and 1 - Day International status.
Cricket was initiated in India by European merchant sailors in 18th century. In India, the 1st cricket club was documented in Calcutta in 1792. The Indian cricket team did not participate its first Test match till 25th June, 1932 at Lord's sports ground.
Indian team became the sixth team to set an established Test cricket status. Indian squad gained supremacy by the end of 1970’s with the sprouting of sports men such as Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Srinivas Venkataraghavan, Erapalli Prasanna, Bhagwat, Chandrasekhar and Bishen Singh Bedi. Customarily much brawny at home than overseas, the Indian team has improved its overseas figure since the 21st century.
