India’s geography portrays the geographic features of India. India is located at the North of the equator flanked by 8°4' and 37°6' Northern latitude and 68°7' & 97°25' Eastern longitude. India is the 7th biggest country in the world by area. On its south, India ventures into and is surrounded by the Indian Ocean. It is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on the South-West, in the South by the Laccadive Sea and Bay of Bengal on South-East.
India’s Northern frontiers are distinct mainly by Himalayan mountain range, where India borders Bhutan Nepal and China. India’s Western border lies in Punjab Plain & in the Thar Desert. In North-East, the Kachin Hills and Chin Hills intensely forested mountainous areas, split India from Burma. On the Eastern side, its border with Bangladesh is largely defined by the Mizo Hills and Khasi Hills, and the watershed region of Indo-Gangetic Plain.
