Korean & Indian Students Together Raise Heritage Conservation Awareness in Delhi

In order to raise awareness about conservation and importance of heritage sites and historical monuments, a group of 80 Korean and 20 Indian students have taken initiative in the capital, New Delhi. The main motto is to revive the lost glory of the ageing and often unattended monuments of Delhi. The students have been roped in by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to create awareness about the importance of such heritage places and its value to the people of the region.

Hyundai Motors, under its global youth volunteers camp, has brought in the Korean students. The students have been divided into four groups. In each of the teams there are five Indian students. Under the awareness programme to protect the historical monuments of the capital, the students cleaned and polished certain nameplates, iron grills and collected garbage from the Safdargang Tomb area. The same set of actions would be taken at various other heritage sites like Feroz Shah Kotla, Qutub Minar, Old Fort etc. as well.

Few of the Korean students were quite stunned to see the state of these monuments in the city. A young Korean student of twenty-three named Ah Lee was surprised after her arrival in Delhi as she face open littering of people at the various heritage sites in the capital. She said, “This is my first visit to New Delhi, which is a hub of monuments. I believe it is important for every country to preserve its heritage.”

The students on visit to the country would interact with school children at various Sarvodaya schools during their stay of the next 12 days. They would undertake cleaning and re-designing activities within the school premises as well.
