SSC conducts an annual exam to recruit Junior Engineers in departments like Central Water Commission, Central Public Works Department, Department of Posts etc. As per the new guideline the examination will consist of written test only .There will be No interview and final selection will be made on the basis of merit in written examination only.

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts Junior Engineer Examination to recruit engineers in various central government bodies like Central Water CommissionDepartment of Posts, Farakka BarrageCentral Public Works and Military Engineering Services etc. for civil, mechanical, electrical, quantity surveying and contract disciplines. The pay scale attached to these Group B Non-gazetted posts is 9300-34800 with the initial grade pay being 4200.

Scheme of Examination

Earlier the recruitment is done on the basis of the marks obtained in Written Exam followed by an interview. However, in terms of decision taken by Government of India to discontinue interviews at junior level posts and in terms of clarification received from Department of Personnel and Training dated 05.10.2015; the Commission has decided to dispense with the interview. The amendment has made regarding the scheme of examination.

Now the examination will consist of written test only (Paper-I and Paper-II). There will be No interview and final selection will be made on the basis of merit in written examination only.

The written exam is divided into two papers with the first one being objective type of 200 marks and the second one being is conventional, descriptive paper of 300 marks.

Syllabus of the Examination

Paper I is of 200 marks having only objective questions and it carries the following sections:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: 50 marks
  • General Awareness: 50 marks
  • General Engineering (Civil & Structural / Mechanical / Electrical): 100 marks

Paper II is of descriptive type and it carries 300 marks. The sections in this paper are:

General Engineering (Civil & Structural)

OR

General Engineering (Electrical)

OR

General Engineering (Mechanical)
