The Maharashtra State Board for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education changed the complete syllabus across all steams keeping in mind the National Curriculum framework and the State Curriculum frame work 2010.
Introduction of investigative studies pertaining to environmental problems, physical fitness index in physical education, Maharashtra's past in the history subject are some of the topics introduced in the new syllabus for standard eleventh and twelfth. The changed syllabus class eleven will be immediately applicable starting this academic session 2012-13,however for standard twelve the change will kick start only by the next academic session, 2013-14.
A common course in English has been designed for both English medium and non-English medium schools. In the English syllabus, the weightage has been reworked and now the reading skills will carry forty percent marks, grammar fifteen percent, writing skill twenty five percent and oral test will carry around twenty percent marks.
Separate text books have been created for both the classes. Subjects such as environment and health, migration, evolution of technology, various Acts concerning to environment, sustainable development, ecological footprints, science and technology and man-made artifacts have been designed for Class eleven and for Standard twelve will study complex topics such as exosphere ( atmosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere), ecosystem and biological population, energy and material.
