The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research was conceived and founded by the distinguished Indian Scientist Dr. Homi Bhabha in June 1945 with the active support of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Government of Bombay Presidency. The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research conducts a graduate programme leading to the award of PhD Degree as well as MSc and integrated PhD Degree in various subjects.
The Graduate Programme at TIFR is classified into the following Subjects - Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer & Systems Science, and Science Education. It is conducted at the Mumbai campus and various National Centres of TIFR.

Selection procedure: The admissions procedure (in all subjects, except Science Education) consists of a written test at one of the several nationwide centres, followed by interviews of shortlisted candidates.
Shortlisted candidates will be called for interviews to be held during end-February to early-April, 2012. Exact dates would be announced later.
Results of the entrance examination will be announced on January 18, 2012 on this website and students shortlisted for interview will be intimated by email.

Interested candidates need to submit online applications at http://univ.tifr.res.in/ Only candidates from remote areas who have no access to internet may send their request for application form along with a self-addressed stamped (Rs 20) envelope (size 25 cm x 17 cm) super scribed GS 2012 (subject). All others to submit online applications only.
