What is RRB?

RRB stands for Railway Recruitment Board; it is a government organisation that is responsible for recruitment of eligible candidates in Indian Railways. RRB was established in 1942, and it has played an important role in standard and quality in the workforce of Indian Railways.

RRB conducts the ALP examination to recruit eligible candidates for the assistant loco pilot positions. RRB is also responsible for hiring eligible candidates for various posts such as Group D, Junior Engineer (JE), Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC), RPF Constable, RPF SI, etc.

What is RRB ALP Full Form in Railways?

RRB ALP stands for RRB Assistant Loco Pilot, which refers to the train driver (loco pilot) in operating the train, ensuring its smooth and safe journey. The ALP examination can be conducted in 12 different languages, such as Hindi, English, Marathi, Assamese, Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, Manipuri, Telugu, Konkani, and Urdu. The RRB ALP examination is multiple phases, such as CBT 1, CBT 2, CBAT, etc.

RRB ALP Eligibility Criteria

The RRB ALP eligibility criteria include educational qualification, age limit, nationality, etc. The candidates who will not fulfil any of the eligibility criteria will be disqualified. The candidates who are 18 years old and have completed the matriculation level of education are eligible. 

RRB ALP Age Limit

RRB requires a candidate to be at least 18 years old and not older than 30 years for the general category. The details entered by candidates must match the ones with their matriculation certificate, SSC certificate, and other documents.

RRB ALP Educational Qualification

The candidates must have completed the Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognised institutions of NCVT/SCVT in the trades of Armature and Coil Winder / Electrician / Electronics Mechanic / Fitter / Heat Engine / Instrument Mechanic / Machinist / Mechanic Diesel / Mechanic Motor Vehicle / Millwright Maintenance Mechanic / Mechanic Radio & TV / Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Mechanic / Tractor Mechanic / Turner / Wireman, etc. 

RRB ALP Syllabus and Exam Pattern

The RRB ALP syllabus for CBT 1 is divided into subjects such as mathematics, mental ability, general science, and general awareness, whereas the CBT 2 syllabus is divided into two parts, i.e., Parts A and B, where Part B is qualifying in nature. The important topics for the RRB ALP examination are percentages, profit and loss, simple interests, static GK, Indian history, polity, geography, general science, etc. The RRB ALP Exam Pattern comprises of 

  • Stage 1: Computer-Based Test (CBT-1): The first stage is a preliminary exam that tests general awareness, mathematics, and reasoning skills.
  • Stage 2: Computer-Based Test (CBT-2): The second stage is more specialised, focusing on technical skills
  • Stage 3: Typing Skill Test/Computer-Based Aptitude Test: Depending on the position, candidates may need to pass a typing test or an aptitude test.
  • Stage 4: Document Verification and Medical Examination: Candidates who clear the previous stages must undergo document verification and a medical examination to ensure they are fit for the role.
