Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana commonly known as KVPY is a national scholarship programme for students who want to pursue their higher education in Science stream only. The KVPY programme was started by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India in order to encourage more young and talented students for a research career in Science stream. Such students will be required to register and appear in KVPY Scholarship Exam to avail this facility.

Key Features of KVPY–

Conducted by Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore

Exam Level National level

Scholarship level – up to pre-Ph.D. level  

Notification release dates – On Technology Day i.e. May 11 and Second Sunday of July every year

 

KVPY Eligibility

For SA stream – Students should be Indian Nationals only and studying in class 11 with science stream. They must have secured at least 75% marks in class 10 qualifying exam in the aggregate of Mathematics and Science subjects. The students belonging to reserved categories i.e. SC/ST/PWD must have obtained at least 65% marks in class 10 qualifying exam.

For SX stream – Students studying in Class 12th with science stream and want to pursue higher education in Science field. The students must have obtained at least 75% (65%) marks in class 10 qualifying examination and 60% (50%) marks in aggregate of Class 11 Science and Mathematics subjects.

KVPY Exam Pattern – Aptitude Test for two streams i.e. SA and SB/SX streams. The aptitude test of KVPY is conducted in Computer Based Test mode in English or Hindi medium. The complete exam pattern for KVPY is as under –

KVPY Fellowship amount

  • In 1st and 3rd year of B. Sc/B.S./B. Stat/B. Math/Integrated M.Sc./M.S. – Students will get Rs. 5000 as monthly stipend and Rs. 20000 as Annual Contingency Grant
  • In 1st and 2nd year of M.Sc. and 4th and 5th year of M.Sc./M.S. – Students will get Rs. 7000 as monthly stipend and Rs. 28000 as Annual Contingency Grant.

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)

National Talent Search Exam popularly known as NTSE is conducted by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for providing scholarships to students studying from class 11 to PhD level. The exam is conducted at two levels i.e. at the state level by respective states/UTs and at National level by NCERT. The selection is made on basis of students’ performance in Mental Ability Test and Scholastic Aptitude Test. Earlier, Language Test was also included in the test for both English and Hindi language but now it has been removed from NTSE 2018.

Conducted by – NCERT at the national level and each participating state/UTs at the state level

Exam Level Stage 1 at the state level and Stage 2 at the national level 

Scholarship level – Class 11 to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD level)

Notification release dates – The NTSE notification for stage 1 is released by last week of July every year and the application begins by August month.

NTSE EligibilityStudents studying in class 10 and not more than 18 years of age. The students must be willing to pursue higher education in India only.

NTSE Scholarship Amount –

  • For Class 11 and Class 12 students – Rs. 1250 on a monthly basis
  • For UG and PG students – Rs. 2000 on a monthly basis
  • For PhD level students – as per UGC norms

Science Olympiad Foundation Scholarship Exams–

Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) conducts different scholarship exams for students from class 1 to class 12. The students who qualify for these scholarship exams by SOF are awarded scholarship awards in form of cash prizes, trophies and medals to meritorious students at zonal level, district level as well as at International level. The scholarship exams conducted by SOF are –

  • National Cyber Olympiad by SOF
  • National Science Olympiad by SOF
  • International Mathematics Olympiad by SOF
  • International English Olympiad by SOF
  • International Company Secretaries Olympiad by SOF (only for Class 11 and Class 12 students)
  • International General Knowledge Olympiad by SOF

The students have to apply in online mode for participating in any of the scholarship exams by SOF. The students will be awarded scholarships on basis of qualification in the exams.

International Social Studies Olympiad –

The scholarship exam conducted by Silver Zone Foundation for students from Class 3rd to Class 10th to test their aptitude in social studies subjects i.e. History, Geography and Civics. The scholarship exams are conducted at national and international levels based on syllabus prescribed by CBSE, ICSE and state board of education.
