Gorakhpur lad Shikhar Suryavansh has topped the ICSE class X board exam 2011 in the Gorakhpur region and is on cloud nine these days. He tips the prospective ICSE board exam students on preparation.

Q. How did you prepare for the exam?
Shikhar Suryavansh: Ans 1. I prepared a time table for myself and followed it strictly. Further, I studied regularly which I consider to be very important to succeed in any exam and reduce last minute stress.

Q2. How many hours a day did you devote for studying?
Shikhar Suryavansh: I devoted about 4 to 5 hours daily for studying.

Q. Did you pursue your hobby while preparing for the exam?
Shikhar Suryavansh: Yes, I pursued my hobbies while preparing for exam.

Q. How many hours did you sleep during exams?
Shikhar Suryavansh: I believe that sound sleep is very important to be focused and stable during the exams. So, I had proper sleep of 6 to 7 hours during exams.

Q5. What time of the day did you find best for preparation?
Shikhar Suryavansh: According to me, any time of the day is best for preparation if one really wants to study.

Q. Is coaching necessary to gain command on the subject?
Shikhar Suryavansh:
No. I feel that the teachers at school are sufficient to clear any doubt of the student and if the child is sincere towards his studies, he can master all the subjects without any extra coaching.

Q. Were you scared of any particular subject?
Shikhar Suryavansh: I had a good command on all the subjects, so there was no need to be scared of any subject.

Q. Did you suffer from ‘Board Exam Fever’? How did you cope with the stress?
Shikhar Suryavansh: I had studied regularly throughout the year for my exams so, towards the end I had well revised my syllabus many times and was pretty confident about my results. I have never taken stress for studies.

Q. Any particular strategy for your preparation?
Shikhar Suryavansh:
Nothing special, just regular studies based on a set time table is the secret of my success.

Q. Is there any subject that you really hated?
Shikhar Suryavansh: No, I enjoyed studying all the subjects.

Q. How active were you in extra-curricular activities?
Shikhar Suryavansh: According to me, extra-curricular activities are very important for proper development of any student. I am a good basketball player and I participated in the summer camp organized in our school for basketball. I also participated in the inter- school basketball championship.

Q. What are your plans for future?
Shikhar Suryavansh:
I wish to crack IIT-JEE and complete my engineering in mechanics.
