Solutions (part 2)

By homogenous mixture we mean that its composition and properties are uniform throughout the mixture. Generally, the component that is present in the largest quantity is known as solvent. Solvent determines the physical state in which solution exists. One or more components present in the solution other than solvent are called solutes

Solutions (part 2)

What do you mean by concentration of solution? Why it is necessary to express the concentration of solution? What are the ways of expressing concentration of solution? What does weight by weight mean. What is percent of volume? What do you mean by strength?

The amount of the solute present in the given amount of the solvent is called concentration of solution. The difference amount of the solute may be dissolved in the same kind of solution and therefore it is almost important to express the concentration of a given solution. The mass of the solute in grams present in 100 grams of the solution. If the solute and solvent are both present in same physical state then it is called percent by volume. Strength is the mass of the solute in gram present in one litter of solution
