GS (General Studies) paper for IAS Main exam consists of two papers- GS paper I and GS paper II, 300 marks each. Paper I covers sections such as Current National Issues and topics of Social Relevance, History of Modern India and Indian Culture, Constitution of India and Indian Polity and Geography of India. While, paper II covers sections like India and the World, India’s Economic Interaction with the rest of the World, Development in the field of Science and Technology, Information Technology, Space, International Affairs and World Organisation and Institutions and Statistical Analysis, Graphs and Diagrams etc.
India and the World: The segment focuses on India’s bilateral relationship with the world. One should put extra focus on India’s relationship with P5 nations-USA, UK, China, Russia and France as well as neighbouring nations.
India’s Economic Interaction with the Rest of the World: This section deals with India’s export and Import with other nations as well as any survey done by the world institutions on economic growth of India.
International Affairs and world Organisation and Institutions: For this segment, one should focus on the conventional areas of international relations that are in news. Try to understand India’s relationship with the world in Political, Economic, Socio-cultural spheres. The subsection dealing with India’s foreign policy should be thoroughly covered. Issues related to India’s external security should be given attention by the students. The segment also includes international organizations. One should know thoroughly all the organs of UN (United Nations) and their functions.
Statistical Analysis, Graphs and Diagram etc: There will be 2 graph questions from this segment and if someone practices one graph daily, he/she could score full marks easily.
