When it comes to testing the all-round development of a student, there are only a few sources from where a student can improve his internal material and grab a chance to examine himself on a national platform. The students of IIT Guwahati, however, have moved a step ahead and targeted at cultivating the basic analytical and comprehensive abilities of the children. Technothlon, an international school championship, is conducted every year as a part of Techniche, the annual Techno-management festival of IIT Guwahati. Having organized eleven successful editions of Technothlon, Techniche is now all ready for the twelfth time. Technothlon has been a favorite of many students nationwide as it is arguably one of the most competitive examinations conducted for the school students in India. Technothlon is also the largest examination conducted by an all-student organization, and is inviting participation from enthusiastic children this year as well.
Technothlon began its journey in 2004 with an aim to ‘Inspire Young Minds’. Starting on its journey with a participation of 200 students confined to the city of Guwahati, over the past 11 years Technothlon has expanded its reach to over 200 cities all over the nation and various centers abroad.
Through a series of events involving mental aptitude, logic and dexterity, it seeks to provide school students a platform to build fundamental experience and knowledge, to exercise co-ordination skills, and to think out of the box. Technothlon is conducted for students of class IX to XII. Students have to participate in teams of two. There are two squads: Junior Squad - Students of classes 9th and 10th and Hauts Squad - Students of classes 11th and 12th. The basic requirements for team formation is that there should consist exactly two members from the same squad from the same school.
The prelims of this exam is set to be conducted in the month of July in above 250 centers nationwide. The exam is of two and a half hour length and would test the basic logical reasoning and mental abilities of the students. Students are required to write the exam in pairs of two, that is along with their partner; a move which promotes social co-ordination and sharing of knowledge among the budding minds.
Technopedia is the online module of Technothlon providing its students with an ultimate experience of the prelims beforehand. With the monthly quizzes, Technopedia aims at keeping the young minds involved in brainstorming questions and helping them prepare for the prelims.
Everywhere, something incredible is waiting to be known. Explore the science behind everyday life and let science meet fun. Having realized the beauty of science in life all around us, we at Technothlon have taken up an initiative “LED-Learn Experience Discover “to reach out to the school students spreading this message through demonstrations of science concepts.

Based on the performance of the students in the prelims, the top 50 teams from each squad are selected and are awarded the tag of finalists. Apart from these, the mains round of Technothlon would be conducted during Techniche and the winners of this final round would grab a prize money worth 1 lakh. While the top 100 teams would be invited to IIT Guwahati, the next 400 teams would be awarded with silver certificates from Technothlon as a token of merit.
The interested students can register themselves for the examination online or offline. The registration fees is Rs. 100 per team.
