UGC notified vide circular dated 01 March 2016, stating: all the Universities to consider Ph.D. research period excluding leaves as equivalent to ‘Teaching Experience’ hereinafter. A copy of the notice no D.o. No. F. 1 7-81201 3(PS) has been sent to Vice-Chancellor of all Universities.
As per the UGC notice, the period of active service spent on pursuing Research Degree i.e. for acquiring Ph.D. degree simultaneously, without taking any kind of leave, may be counted as teaching experience for the purpose of direct recruitment/ promotion to the post of Associate Professor and above.
The notice is seen as an effort by University Grants Commission to bridge the gap between high demands for qualified human resource for faculty positions in various Universities, which require minimum teaching experience for the faculty posts. This decision by UGC may help research fellows in obtaining faculty positions and fill vacant posts.
