Paper III of the National Eligibility Test (NET) will be conducted in Objective Mode from June 2012 instead of Subjective Mode. The test which is conducted by University Grants Commission will now consist of only objective type questions and will be held on the same day of Examination in two separate sessions.

As per the new notification, Paper III (second session) of the test that used to gauge a candidate's knowledge in the chosen subject through subjective paper will now be objective type (150 marks) wherein all 75 questions needs to be completed two and half hours time. The pattern of Paper I and Paper II, conducted in first session, will be same as before i.e., candidates will have to attempt 50 questions out of 60 for Paper I (100 marks) and all 50 questions for Paper II (100 marks).
Candidates are required to obtain minimum marks separately in Paper I (40% marks), Paper II (40% marks) and Paper III (75% marks). Only such candidates who obtain the minimum required marks in each Paper, separately, will be considered for final preparation of result.
UGC has also decided to allow candidates appearing for National Eligibility Test (NET), 2012 to take their optical reader answer sheets with them on conclusion of the examination.
The National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts National Eligibility Test (NET) for Indian nationals in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research. It determines the candidate's eligibility for lectureship and for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The tests are conducted twice in a year generally in the months of June and December.
