The First International Yoga Day on June 21 is asked to get observed in the universities and colleges across the country by the Government. The day was chosen as the Yoga Day by United Nations and it was finalized on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposal.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has sent a directive to all the university Vice-Chancellors of the nation and has said that the institutions must make sure to show promotional films on the day and there should be distribution of education and communication materials on yoga in the university and college premises.
The International Yoga Day on June 21 was adopted last year in September at the 69th Session of United Nations general assembly. On his maiden address in the assembly, prime minister Modi had suggested the idea and thus to honor the Prime Minister UN General Assembly decided to coin the day to be observed as International Yoga Day.
According to the communication sent to various universities it said, “The government has decided to give practical effect to the resolution by ensuring that the first International Day of Yoga is commemorated in a befitting manner on June 21, 2015. You are, therefore, requested to kindly observe international Day of Yoga on June 21, in your esteemed university and colleges affiliated to your university.”
The observance of the day in various educational institutions nationwide would bring more and more youth towards the ambit of Yoga and its benefits. This can immensely help developing the mind and soul of the students at large.
