Out of the total candidates recommended 500 are from general category while 347 are OBC's, 163 SC's and 89 ST's. It is to be noted that the topper this year Nandini K R from Karnataka isn't a first timer. She cleared the exam in her second attempt. She being a Civil Engineering graduate from the MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bengaluru aced the exam earlier and was selected for IRS but she wanted IAS. It should also be taken into account that the topper this year was not able to clear the prelim exams in her first and third attempts owing to lack of preparation and health issues but she never left chasing her dream.

Nandini did her schooling from Kolar a place known for its goldmines. She belongs to a middle class family with her father being a government School teacher. After the declaration of results she was quoted as saying that it was a dream for her to always invest her life in the service of mankind. Proper time management, meditation, self control and perseverance are the key values which helped her to reach the top. It is daughters like these which make India proud, her achievement is a lesson for all aspiring candidates that with hard work, focus and determination anything is possible.
