Application fees and charges may be increased for all UPSC exams. Examinees may have to pay more for the exams. However, candidates should wait for the release of an official declaration at upsc.gov.in.
As per the direction of the Finance Ministry, departments have been asked for cost recovery by increasing the user charge. Clarifying the motive the Ministry has stated the expenditure incurred in the arrangement of examination, which is far more than the application fee levied on candidates.
Citing an example in this regard, Finance Ministry said that till date UPSC charges Rs 100 as application fee for many examinations; while the expense involved in conducting such examinations is increasing every year.
Railway service examinations have also fallen in this loop. While for many posts/ services of Indian Railways charges have been the same for many years, or there has been a negligible increase.
Changes as such had been planned previously also, but the result was not achieved. However this time the Ministry is vehemently working on making things possible.
In addition to UPSC exam fees, charges will increase for passports, licenses as well.
About UPSC examinations: Union Public Service Commission, one of the biggest functioning and governing bodies of the country. The Commission is involved in recruiting examinations and recruitment tests for appointing candidates against all the vacant posts in different departments of Ministries. UPSC notifies of vacancies as and when they arise and conduct strict selection procedure for sorting out eligible candidates.
Application fees are charged from all the candidates who register for the exam. Fee relaxation is also provided to candidates belonging to SC/ ST and other reserved categories. The Commission hasn’t made any significant change in the application fee charged. However recently, as per the direction of the Finance Ministry, there may be changes in the registration and examination fee.
