The State Cabinet decided to revive Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana, on 31 July 2012. The Yojana was shelved during the previous Mayawati government. The State government by now has already made an allocation of 439.34 crore for Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme under the current fiscal year, 2012.
The scheme came into being first during the regime of Mulayam Singh Yadav in the year, 2004. At that time a payment of rupees twenty thousand was made to high school passed girls of below poverty line to pursue their higher education, however the state government has now increased the amount to thirty thousand and also decided that it would be given to intermediate passed girl students.
While reviving the scheme, the state government , in the past had already scrapped almost a similar Savitri Bai Phule Balika Shiksha Madad Yojana of Mayawati government, which was launched January 15 January, 2009.
In addition to this, the Cabinet has also given a green signal to the implementation of centrally sponsored national optical fibre network (NOFN) scheme for broadband connectivity with all the panchayats in the state. The scheme will be functional in another two years , meaning by 2014.
