• Two senior journalists at Rupert Murdoch's best-selling British tabloid The Sun were on Wednesday reported to have attempted to commit suicide after being questioned by police in the phone hacking scandal
• The former Maldivian dictator, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, returned to the country almost one month after the new regime took over
• President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela said that a tumour removed from his pelvic region during an operation in Havana was malignant

• Pakistan appointed Zaheer-ul Islam as the head of Inter Services Intelligence(ISI). Islam would replace Ahmed Shuja Pasha, whose retirement is due on 18 March 2012.
