India Goes Digital: Easily Register for a Birth Certificate Online with These Simple Steps

Home Minister Amit Shah recently launched the Civil Registration System (CRS) mobile app for recording births and deaths of the citizens of India. By going digital the newly launched app aims to make birth and death registrations quicker and more efficient.

In a post on the X platform, Amit Shah appreciated the efforts of Sardar Patel in uniting the nation and building a strong foundation for the country. He said that the statue of Patel, known as the "Iron Man," stands as a symbol of his dedication to the country and his commitment to democratic values.

In another post, Shah highlighted how the new CRS app, launched as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India initiative, is a big step forward in using technology to enhance the experience of governance. 

This app allows citizens to register births and deaths anytime, anywhere, and in their state’s official language, making the process easy and convenient.

What is CRS?

The Civil Registration System (CRS) is a government platform for registering births and deaths. The app is created by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India.

To use the new CRS mobile app, registrars need to download it from the Google Play Store on their Android smartphones. After downloading, they log in using their user ID and password, complete a captcha, and enter the OTP sent to their registered mobile number to finish the login.

How to Register Birth or Death Digitally

The app can be used to digitally register any family member's birth or death, without having to visit government offices. Follow the given steps to do either of the processes: 

Birth Registration:

  • To register a birth, the registrar selects the "Birth" option, then taps on "Register Birth."
  • Fill in details like the child’s date of birth, address, and family information.
  • Submit the form. 

Death Registration:

  • In order to register for a death certificate, you can select the "Death" option.
  • Click on "Register Death" to complete the required details.
  • Fill in the details, as required, and submit the form.

This app simplifies the registration process for birth and death, allowing users to quickly and accurately log important details.
