EC guidelines on ex-gratia for kin of poll officials killed in line of duty

EC revised ex-gratia payment for kin of the official, who dies while performing poll duty of minimum of 10 lakh rupees.

Election Commission on 27 March 2014 revised the ex-gratia payment to the next of kin of officials, who dies while performing poll duty. The Commission in its direction to the state governments has asked them to pay minimum ex-gratia payment of 10 lakh rupees.

But it has also asked the state governments to provide an amount of minimum 20 lakh rupees to poll officials who are killed in violent incident or terrorist attack.

In its direction, the commission has also said that the poll official who suffers from any serious permanent disability will be provided with a minimum ex-gratia of five lakh rupees. But the ex-gratia compensation would be minimum 10 lakh rupees if such a disability is caused due to terror strike or violent incident.
