Indian government on 01 June 2010, during the peace talks held at Nagaland made it clear to the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) [NSCN (IM)] that the consent of other states is required for the formation of greater Nagaland. NSCN (IM) stated again that integration of Naga inhabited regions for making of Greater Nagaland is a common aspiration of all Naga people and government of India must find a way to solve this matter.
R.S.Pandey, the Indian government’s interlocutor, represented the Indian side while Thiungaleng Muivah, the general secretary of NSCN (IM), led its delegation during peace talks.
- NSCN (IM) signed an agreement on ceasefire with the Indian government in 1997.
- For the first time peace talks between the two parties held at Nagaland.
NSCN (IM) is demanding that Naga inhabited areas from the states Manipur and Assam should be parted and merged with the state of Nagaland to create Greater Nagaland. However, Manipur and Assam are completely against this. Indian government is trying its best to solve the issue so that no tension is created between Nagaland and Manipur on this. The opposition of T.Muivah’s visit to his ancestral village in Manipur by the Manipur state government is more or less related to the above- mentioned issue.
