India and Canada on 6 November 2012 succeeded in creating a mechanism for shipping Canadian Uranium to India clearing the mistrust generated on the Canadian side after the nuclear explosion from India in 1974.
Both the sides were successful inking the agreement on the mechanism of shipment of the Canadian Uranium to India for the first time after 1974. The nuclear trade relations between the two nations were affected, when India used the plutonium that was allegedly abstracted from the Canadian test reactor to carry on a nuclear explosion in the year 1974.
The nuclear cooperation agreement was signed between the two nations two years ago but their remained hurdles of mistrust on the Canadian side of how would India use the uranium shipped by Canada in its nuclear power plants. After crossing over the hurdles it’s believed that this start of shipment of Uranium would bring millions of dollars in the new business and would create quality jobs in India.
But the discussions on the Sikh separatist activity in the Canadian provinces failed to reach any concrete solution, as the delegation on visit to India felt a vigilant eye would be more than enough to control such issues. Both the sides also signed agreements on social security.
Canada has also welcomed Indian companies to make investments in the countries petroleum sector in form of SOEs (State Owned Enterprises). But it would be a matter of serious concern for Indian investors to find an environment of safety after the attacks on the two Malaysian and Chinese investors operation within the Canadian borders under the same scheme of SOEs.
