The Maharashtra State Cabinet on 1 June 2011 approved the proposal to increase the minimum age for consumption of hard liquor from 21 to 25 years. The Maharashtra cabinet took this decision with the objective to tighten the implementation of laws on alcohol abuse and illicit sale of liquor.
