India, Myanmar sign MoU for Rakhine State's development
India and Myanmar on 20 December 2017 signed a MoU to develop Rakhine State, from where thousands of Rohingya Muslims fled to Bangladesh following a military crackdown.
The MoU is the first government to government agreement that focuses on the socio-economic development and livelihood initiatives in the Rakhine State. It is intended to help the government of Myanmar achieve its objective of restoring normalcy to the region and enable the safe return of the displaced Rohingya community.
Cabinet approves establishment of India's First National Rail and Transportation University
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 20 December 2017 approved the Ministry of Railways' transformative initiative to set up the first-ever National Rail and Transport University (NRTU) in Vadodara to skill its human resources and build capability.
This university will set Indian Railways on the path of modernisation and help India become a global leader in the transport sector by enhancing productivity and promoting 'Make in India'. It will create a resource pool of skilled manpower and leverage state-of-the-art technology to provide better safety, speed and service in Indian Railways.
Indian Hockey Umpires named as umpires for 2018 Hockey Men's World Cup
Indian Umpires, Raghu Prasad and Javed Shaikh, were on 20 December 2017 named in the panel of umpires for next year's Hockey World Cup to be held in Bhubaneswar.
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced that 25 officials representing 19 countries from all five continents will officiate at this prestigious event taking place at the Kalinga Stadium from 28 November to 16 December.
Besides Prasad and Shaikh, amongst those appointed are Golden Whistle umpires Spain’s Francisco Vazquez, Martin Madden of Scotland and Simon Taylor of New Zealand.
