Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 13, 2020, dedicated three projects related to the petroleum sector in Bihar to the nation through video conferencing.
The latest project includes two Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) Bottling Plants and the Durgapur-Banka section of the Paradip-Haldia-Durgapur Pipeline Augmentation Project. These projects have been commissioned by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Indian Oil.
Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar is also present on the occasion. With a bottling capacity of 40,000 cylinders and an LPG storage capacity of 1800 tonnes per day, this plant will help in generating direct and indirect employment opportunities in Bihar.

Key Points from PM Modi's address:
• PM Modi in his address during the launch of petroleum projects talked about 10 major Petroleum and gas-related projects which were a part of the Pradhan Mantri Package for Bihar. He added that the latest project is the 7th one which is dedicated to the people of Bihar. Around Rs. 21,000 crores have already been spent on these projects.

• In his address, he talked about a 3000 km long pipeline connecting 7 states in which Bihar is at the top. Pm Modi further added that because of this pipeline Bihar is getting the facility of 2 new bottling plants, which have the capacity to fill more than 1 crore cylinders in a year.

About LPG Bottling Plants in East Champaran and Banka:
• The cost of the Banka Plant is Rs. 131.75 crores while that of the east Champaran plant is Rs. 136.4 crores.
• The LPG bottling plants in East Champaran and Banka have a combined bottling capacity of 80,000 cylinders per day.
• The Banka plant will be serving Banka, Bhagalpur, Araria, Jamui, Kishanganj, and Katihar districts in Bihar and Godda, Dumka, Deoghar, Pakur, and Sahibganj districts in the neighbouring Jharkhand.
• The East Champaran plant will be serving over 5 lakh consumers in East and West Champaran, Siwan, Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, and Gopalganj in Bihar and Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh.
About Durgapur-Banka Pipeline Section:
The Durgapur-Banka Pipeline section which is 198 km long is a part of the Paradip-Haldia-Durgapur Pipeline Augmentation Project, for which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone on February 17, 2019.
This section is the extension of the 679 km long Paradip-Haldia-Durgapur LPG pipeline to the new LPG bottling plant at Banka.
