1. (c) Azim Premji

Indian business tycoon and philanthropist Azim Premji was bestowed with the highest French civilian distinction (Knight of the Legion of Honour) in Bengaluru on November 28, 2018. Premji, who is the chairman of Wipro, received the award for his outstanding contribution to developing the information technology industry in India, his economic outreach in France and his laudable contribution to the society as a philanthropist.

2. (d) Arvind Saxena


President Ram Nath Kovind on November 28, 2018 appointed Arvind Saxena as the new Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission.The term of his appointment will be from the date he enters the Chairman office till August 7, 2020 when he attains the age of 65 years or till further orders, whichever is earlier.

The Union Government on November 27, 2018 conferred the ‘Miniratna status: Category –I’ on the National Projects Construction Corporation Limited (NPCC). The empowerment of Miniratna Status will help NPCC in taking speedy decisions by enhancing the delegation of powers to the Board.

The European Union on November 28, 2018 urged government, businesses, citizens and regions to join it in an ambitious plan to cut emissions and make the bloc carbon neutral by 2050. The EU’s strategic long-term vision relies on its member states to take action.

Punyasloke Bhaduri was awarded the prestigious Swarnajayanti Fellowship by the central government for 2017-18 in the discipline of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Under this scheme, scientists are provided with generous support to pursue research in the frontier areas of science and technology.

The International Gita Festival 2018 will be held at Kurukshetra in Haryana from December 7-23 to commemorate the birth of ‘Srimad Bhagwat Gita’. In the fest, Mauritius will be the partner country and Gujarat the partner state.

Renowned flautist Pandit Keshav Ginde will be conferred the 2018 prestigious Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Lifetime Achievement (LTA) Award for Classical Music. The annual LTA award, instituted by Maharashtra Government, honours maestros in classical music and singing. It carries a cash award of Rs 500,000, a memento and a citation,

8. (b) Nepal


The Nepal government on November 27, 2018 launched a social security scheme for the formal sector workers of the country. The new social security scheme is contribution based and it will cover health and medical facilities, safe motherhood, accident and physical incapacity security, security to dependent family members and security at old age.

9. (b) Eiffel Tower


A section of stairs from the Eiffel Tower in Paris was sold for almost 170,000 euros, around three times the pre-sale estimate. The auctioneers announced that more than two dozen wrought-iron steps from the original spiral structure, from between the second and third floors of the Paris landmark, were sold to a Middle East collector. The stairs, which stand 4.3 m high and were part of a private Canadian collection.

India and China on November 28, 2018 signed a protocol on hygiene and inspection requirements for the export of fish oil and fish meal in New Delhi during the visit of Hu Wei, the Vice Minister of China’s General Administration of Customs. The agreement would enable India to commence export of fish meal and fish oil to China.

11. (a) Goa

The movie 'Donbass' directed by Sergei Loznitsa won the coveted Golden Peacock Award at the 49th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which concluded in Goa on November 28, 2018. The Golden Peacock Award carries a cash prize of Rs 4 million (Rs 40 lakhs) to be shared equally between the Producer and the Director, a Trophy and the citation.

12. (d) Music


Playback singer Mohammed Aziz passed away in Mumbai, Maharashtra on November 27, 2018. Born in Ashoknagar, West Bengal, he was the voice behind evergreen tracks such as "My name is Lakhan", "Aap ke aa jane se" and "Dil le gayi teri bindiya”.
