UK Songwriting Contest 2013 Results Announced; Indian-Origin Winners Included

The winners of the UK Songwriting Contest were announced on 8 August 2013. Afra Naushad, 27, the Indian doctor-turned-writer based in Saudi Arabia reached the semi-final round for the song Run Into The Wild. Other Indian origin winners included Shelly Bhushan in the adult contemporary category and Akshay Chowdhary and Sumant Balakrishnan in the rock category.

About the UK Songwriting Contest

• The UK Songwriting Contest is the longest running as well as the most popular international songwriting events of the world.
• It was launched in the year 2002 along with The BRIT Trust.
• The aim of the UK Songwriting Contest is to discover and encourage the new songwriting talent as well as promote the art of songwriting.
• Ever since the launch of UK Songwriting Contest, more than 50000 songs took part in the competition.
• UK Songwriting Contest is one of the best songwriting events of the world and is known to be the important platform for launching new talent.
• There are 15 song categories in all which include Open, Christmas Songs, Electronic/Dance/Ambient, Adult Contemporary, Pop, Love Songs, Rock, Lyrics Only, Acoustic & Folk, Jazz/Blues, Country, R&B/Urban, Christian/Faith, among others.
• The 2013 judging panel included Grammy, Emmy, CMA and BRIT Award winning Gold and Platinum Album producers and artists including Sting's producer Kipper Eldridge, Elton John's producer Stuart Epps and Britney Spears' Musical Director Simon Ellis among others.
