Home Ministry rejected MEA proposal to grant visa-on-arrival facility to Bangladeshi nationals and visa- free entry to people under age 18 and over 65.

Union Home Ministry on 23 June 2014 decided not to allow visa-free entry to Bangladeshi nationals. The proposal to grant visa-free entry was mooted by Ministry of External Affairs. As per the proposal, MEA mooted to grant visa-on-arrival facility and visa-free entry to Bangladeshi nationals who are below 18 years of age and above 65.

However, it did not ruled out the MEA proposal to grant long-term multiple entry tourist visa for Bangladeshi nationals under age of 18 and over 65. At present they get multiple-entry visa for one year but the proposal has asked extension of the facility for five years.

Apart from this, the MEA had asked the Union Home Ministry to give its opinion on the two issues of visa as a part of the tentative agenda of discussion during the visit of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to Bangladesh between 25 June and 27 June 2014.
