Argentina defeated top ranking Netherlands 3-1 and won the 12th Women's field hockey World Cup on 11 Sept 2010 in Rosario, Argentina. The England team defeated Germany 2-0 and occupied the third position thereby winning a bronze medal in the tournament. This was England's first Women's hockey World Cup medal. The 2010 Women's Hockey World Cup marked the twelfth tournament of the Women's Hockey World Cup. It was held from 29 August to 11 September 2010 in Rosario, Argentina. Netherlands won the cup five times including the last women’s hockey World Cup. Netherlands was also the first time winner of the Cup in 1974. Argentina won the hockey World Cup first time in 2002 in Perth.
The Women's Hockey World Cup is the field hockey World Cup competition for women being held since 1974. The tournament is organised by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) since they merged with the International Federation of Women's Hockey Associations (IFWHA) in 1982.
