    1. Its construction started on October 13, 1792 and got completed on November 1, 1800.

    2. The White House was designed by Irish-born architect James Hoban, who won a competition in 1792.

    3. On November 1, 1800, John Adams became the first president to take residence in the building.

    4. It has been the residence of every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800.

    5. In 1814, during the War of 1812, the White House was set ablaze by British troops.

The White House comprises: six stories and 55,000 ft⊃2; of floor space, 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms, 147 windows, 412 doors, 28 fireplaces, 8 staircases, 3 elevators, a movie theater (officially called the White House Family Theatre), a swimming pool, a tennis court (single-lane), and a jogging track.
