Computer Security

Computer security is a branch of computer technology known as information security as applied to computers and networks. The objective of computer security includes protection of information and property from theft, corruption, or natural disaster, while allowing the information and property to remain accessible and productive to its intended users.

Abstract

After thirty years of work on computer security, why are almost all the systems in service today extremely vulnerable to attack? The main reason is that security is expensive to set up and a nuisance to run, so people judge from experience how little of it they can get away with. Since there’s been little damage, people decide that they don’t need much security. In addition, setting it up is so complicated that it’s hardly ever done right. While we await a catastrophe, simpler setup is the most important step toward better security.

Secure operating systems

One use of the term computer security refers to technology to implement a secure operating system. Much of this technology is based on science developed in the 1980s and used to produce what may be some of the most impenetrable operating systems ever. Though still valid, the technology is in limited use today, primarily because it imposes some changes to system management and also because it is not widely understood. Such ultra-strong secure operating systems are based on operating system kernel technology that can guarantee that certain security policies are absolutely enforced in an operating environment. An example of such a Computer security policy is the Bell-LaPadula model.

Computer Security Tips

1- Protect your Computer from Internet Hackers by using Firewalls

Firewalls protect your system by forming a wall between your system and the outside world. Firewalls are of two types, software firewalls, which run on your hardware firewalls and PC that protect many systems at the same time.

2- Check your System Security on Regular Basis

The operating system and programs on your computer may have many valuable features, but also allows many viruses and web hackers. It is better to evaluate your computer security at least twice a year.

3- Take the Backup of your Data Files Regularly on Disks or CD’s

There are two types of people, those who have already lost data and those who are going to lose data in the future. You have to take back up of small amounts of data on CD’s and on floppy disks.

4- Don’t share access with your computers with unknown person

It is important to learn about file sharing risks. Sharing files with a stranger can infect your computer with many viruses, worms and Trojans.
