Sharad Purnima is one of the most renowned full moon nights in the Hindu calendar. It is believed to be the only day when the moon appears in its fullest form, shining with all sixteen Kalas (divine aspects or phases). What is the Significance of Sharad Purnima?
Sharad Purnima is regarded as one of the most spiritually potent nights in the Hindu calendar. This full moon night is considered highly auspicious for seeking blessings from the deities, offering prayers for health, prosperity, and happiness, and engaging in devotional activities. In several parts of India, it is believed that the rays of the full moon on Sharad Purnima possess healing properties and bring positive energy to those who bathe in its light.
One special tradition on Sharad Purnima is making kheer, a sweet dish made from rice, milk, and sugar, sometimes with added cardamom, nuts, and raisins. The kheer is left outside under the moonlight because, according to Ayurveda and Hindu beliefs, the moon's rays on this night are believed to have healing powers. After a few hours under the moon, the kheer is shared with family members the next morning as a blessed and nourishing treat.
