India's first vulture conservation and breeding centre will be set up in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur at Bhari Baisi village in Farenda range of the Gorakhpur forest division. The project was approved by Deepak Kohli, the Joint Secretary of Uttar Pradesh's Environment, Forest and Climate Change Department.
As per Avinash Kumar, DFO of Gorakhpur division, "This vulture breeding and conservation centre will be the first in India which will be dedicated to king vulture and also the first vulture conservation and breeding centre in Uttar Pradesh." He further added, " The centre will be established on the lines of Haryana's Pinjore vulture conservation and breeding centre."

Details about the project
1- As per the officials, the state government has already allocated Rs 82 lakh for the vulture conservation centre which will be build over the 5-hectare area.
2- The project is expected to be completed in 15 years at an expected cost of Rs 15 crore.
3- The basic infrastructure such as lab, breeding centre, quarantine centre, a residential complex for doctors and staff will be completed in the four years.
4- Also, the breeding and conservation of the red-headed king vulture will start by next year.
Joint Project
The vulture conservation and breeding centre is a joint project constructed under the control of Gorakhpur forest division while the Bombay Natural History and the Wildlife Research Institute will provide technical help.
About the Red-headed vulture
The Red-headed vulture is also known by the names of Asian King Vulture, Pondicherry Vulture and the Indian Black Vulture. It is a medium-sized vulture of 76 to 85 cm long and weighs between 3.7 to 5.4 kg. The red-headed vulture has a wingspan of 1.99-2.6 m.
