According to reports, the colleges in Andhra Pradesh are set to reopen from November 2, 2020 onwards. The 2020-21 academic year calendar was submitted to the state chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy by the AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE). The academic calendar will be reviewed by the CM before the formal announcement is made.
APSCHE Chairman K Hemachandra Reddy stated that for the first time the admissions to all the non-professional degree programmes will be conducted online through a centralised window this year based on the Intermediate marks secured by the students.
In June the APSCHE asked all the degree colleges offering non-professional undergraduate courses to get detailed information about the institutions in a specific format on the official website apsche.org in order to verify the facts and allow admissions by institutions.
New specifications in Academic Calendar
The release of the academic calendar was postponed thrice earlier due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new academic calendar also has new specifications on account of the lockdown and as part of the educational reforms in line with the new National Education Policy.
The new academic calendar also contains special provision for the loss of teaching days due to the pandemic along with the introduction of the four-year bachelor degree programme for non-professional programmes with a one-year internship/ on the job training in the academic year.
CBCS Revised
The APSCHE has also revised the Choice Based Credit system for the non-professional degree programmes introduced in 2015 as it has completed five years of substance. The revised CBCS includes life skill courses and skill development courses along with skill enhancement courses. A mandatory 10-month internship along with community service is also a new component in the academic calendar.

The Council along with proposing the establishment of a State Research Board to promote science and technology or scientific research and development has also formed a committee to suggest policy measures for effective implementation of the recommendations of the National Education Policy 2020.
The promotion of interaction between industry and academic along with working in coordination with the AP Skill Development Corporation, the other focus areas of the council includes setting up a model college in each district, establishing Cluster University, improving gross enrolment ratio in Higher Education sector and increasing gender parity index.
