The central government has approved a proposal of the Rajasthan state government to open medical colleges in five districts in the state. With the medical colleges coming up, Rajasthan will be the first state in the country to have medical colleges in almost all the districts of the state.
In an official statement released it has been stated that the central government has approved the opening of the medical colleges in Sawai Madhopur, Junjunu, Hanumangarh, Tonk and Dusa districts of the state. With the establishment of these medical colleges, 30 of the 33 districts of Rajasthan will have a government medical college or will have for approval for setting up a medical college.
The statement has further mentioned that the districts of Rajsamand, Jalore, and Pratapgarh are the only districts in the state of Rajasthan where there is no government medical college although there is a medical college functioning in the private sector in Rajsamand.
The statement has also added that each of the newly approved medical colleges will cost roughly Rs. 325 crores and from a total of Rs. 1625 crore budget set aside for building the medical college, 60 percent will be provided by the central government while 40 percent will be paid by the state government.
Close to two months ago the central government had approved the Rajasthan state government’s proposal for establishing medical colleges in Alwar, Baran, Banswara, Chittorgarh, Jaisalmer, Karauli, Nagaur, Sri Ganganagar, Sirohi and Bundi in Rajasthan.
Centre Approves Setting up 26 new Medical Colleges under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme
The Central Government under the Central Sponsored Scheme has approved setting up 26 new medical colleges. The government has given its approval to establish medical colleges in six states and union territories which include Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. The medical colleges will be constructed in the third phase of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS).
