Chhattisgarh Schools

Chhattisgarh Schools are being closed yet again due to the increase in the COVID positivity rate in the state. The rules for closing the schools have however been changed by the state as it will be applicable in only a few areas and not the entire state. As per an announcement made by CM Bhupesh Baghel’s office, the schools will be closed in districts with a positivity rate above 4 percent.

Order issued for closing schools

The order for closing schools will be applicable to Anganwadi Centres and Libraries as well since they are directly related to educational activities. The vaccination process has commenced for children between the age group of 15 to 18.

The schools in Chhattisgarh had reopened in September 2021 for the senior classes and the permission to reopen the classes was given as the state had reported a fall in the COVID cases and citizens were following the COVID safety protocols including vaccinations.

With the Omicron variant spreading and affecting the total COVID cases in the state, it was decided that the schools will be closed in only those districts with a higher positivity rate. Chhattisgarh CM had earlier mentioned that a complete lockdown is highly unlikely as only will be considered as a last resort. Strict rules will be placed until then to control the spread of the virus.

Apart from the educational institutions, other places of gather including Cinemas, Swimming Pools, Malls, Clubs, Marriage halls, hotels, restaurants, auditoriums, etc will also be closed in districts with a higher positivity rate. Night curfew is also being imposed from 10 PM to 6 AM.

Chhattisgarh is the latest to join the list of states which have imposed restrictions and closed down schools due to the fear of a new wave.
