The Gujarat High Court has asked the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU) and the state government to explain the university’s fee structure in the context of being a fully grant-in-aid institution by November 29. The clarification was sought by the Gujarat High Court's division bench of justice Akil Kureshi and justice Umesh Trivedi.
This came after a petition was filed by a former student of the university, Sandip Munjyasara, questioning the fee structure prescribed by GFSU for various courses. Notably, Munjyasara had challenged the notifications issued by the state government on October 4, 2017, and May 11, 2018, by which the varsity has been exempted from the purview of the Fee Regulatory Committee and the Admission Committee for Professional Courses.
The former student of the varsity had contended that the university cannot change the huge sum of fees from the students. The university charges huge sum of fees for professional courses despite being provided with funds by the state government. Munjyasara had argued that the fee structure of the varsity is supposed to be under the purview of the Fee Regulatory Committee.
In a petition, Munjyasara requested the high court to instruct the state government to fix the fee structure offered by GFSU by doing away with the present exorbitant fees.
